Hitachi Metals Adopts Clock Domain Crossing Verification Software from Real Intent to Improve Design Quality

Meridian CDC tool catches hidden design failures

SUNNYVALE, Calif. and TOKYO, Japan – June 23, 2014

Real Intent Inc., Inc., a leading provider of RTL functional verification solutions, today announced that Hitachi Metals, Ltd. has adopted the Meridian CDCproduct from Real Intent for its digital electronics design flow. Hitachi Metals will employ Meridian CDC to verify the correct behavior of clock domain crossings in its FPGA designs. Hitachi Metals will use this enhanced design flow for its APRESIA Ethernet switch products, which are popular with telecommunications carrier information network devices.

“We selected Real Intent’s solution because of its distinct accuracy, capacity and reporting advantages over our previous methodology,” said Mr. Kenji Aoshima, General Manager, Core Technology Dept., Information Systems Products Business Unit, Cable Materials Company, Hitachi Metals. “We determined that the adoption of Meridian CDC in our flow will contribute to improved quality of the FPGA designs in our networking communication products.”

Hitachi Metals was able to detect missed incorrect asynchronous signal paths, verify re-convergence effects, and perform needed pulse-width checks with high accuracy using Meridian CDC’s comprehensive structural and formal analysis engines.

“Finding asynchronous crossing errors and having the excellent accuracy of the analysis reports were key to our decision,” added Aoshima. “Meridian was able to detect actual design failures and yet did not report false failures. Its efficiency in reporting the exact re-convergence points in our designs, and the formal analysis of possible pulse-width errors also proved the accuracy of the tool.”

Prakash Narain, president and CEO of Real Intent, said, “Hitachi Metals’ adoption of our Meridian CDC product is a testament to the accuracy benefits that our solutions offer. We look forward to partnering with Hitachi Metals for wider adoption of Real Intent technology in its design and verification flows.”
