ANDY BECHTOLSHEIM JOINS REAL INTENT BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Industry Visionary and Sun and Granite Systems Founder Joins Real Intent Board

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 8, 2000, Real Intent Inc., a new electronic design automation (EDA) company that it is creating an Intent-Driven Verification (IDV) approach that fundamentally alters the way functional verification is done, today announced that Andy Bechtolsheim, an investor in leading-edge EDA companies and a leading strategist in the EDA, computer and networking industry, has joined Real Intent's Board of Directors.

Bechtolsheim joins Real Intent's board at a time when the company is experiencing a strong interest for its Intent-Driven Verification solutions. Intent-Driven Verification greatly enhances the ability of designers to deliver high quality designs by increasing the verification coverage while reducing the overall verification and design cycles.

Other Real Intent Board members include Prabhu Goel, the founder and CEO of Gateway Design Automation, whose Verilog-XL simulator has become a world-wide standard; and Real Intent founders Prakash Narain, President and CEO, and Rajiv Kumar, Vice President and COO.

About Andy Bechtolsheim
Andy Bechtolsheim is Vice President of Engineering of the Gigabit Switching Group at Cisco Systems (Nasdaq:CSCO) . Previously, he was a Co-Founder and Vice President of Technology of Sun Microsystems, where he was the chief architect of Sun's workstation product line. In 1995 Andy founded Granite Systems to design high-performance Gigabit Ethernet switches. Granite was acquired by Cisco in September of 1996. He is a member of the board of directors of Magma Design Automation and an active investor in the ECAD industry.

Bechtolsheim received a MS in computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1976 and he was a PhD student in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University from 1977 to 1982. He has been honored with a Fulbright scholarship, a German National Merit Foundation scholarship, the Stanford Entrepreneur Company of the year award, the Smithsonian Leadership Award for Innovation and has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering.
