Andy Bechtolsheim

Andy Bechtolsheim is a technology leader, industry visionary and one of the best computer architects in the world. After co-founding Sun Microsystems more than 20 years ago, he is back at Sun as a Senior Vice President and Chief Architect at Sun. He is also a member of Sun's Executive Management Group. Prior to Sun, Andy was the Vice President of Engineering at Cisco Systems.
Bechtolsheim earned a master's degree in computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1976. He was a doctoral student in computer science and electrical engineering at Stanford University from 1977 to 1982. He has been honored with a Fulbright scholarship, a German National Merit Foundation scholarship, the Stanford Entrepreneur Company of the year award, the Smithsonian Leadership Award for Innovation and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

Anant spent 18 years at Sun. For 17 years, he was associated with the micro-processor group. He was one of the founding members of the SPARC team. Till, Feb, 2001 he was the Vice President and General Manager of the processor group. In addition to microprocessors, his group had the responsibility for Design Automation and semiconductor product/test for all of Sun. From January 2001 through May 2002, he was Vice President and General Manager of Networking and Security business unit at Sun. Prior to Sun, Anant spent 5 years at Memorex corporation and STC Computer Research Corporation. He holds a Master's degree in EE from Cornell and a Bachelor's degree in Electronics from MS University Baroda.
